Swindon Borough Council - confirmed case of bird flu

Swindon Borough Council have had confirmation from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) that Avian (Bird) Flu was found in dead wild birds recovered in Swindon.

The risk of transmission to humans and other mammals, such as cats and dogs, is very low. But it is important that if you see dead or sick wild birds in any of our local parks that you do not touch them.

You should also not touch any bird feathers or areas contaminated by droppings.

While our warden team are carrying out weekly checks across the Borough, if you do find a dead bird in a public area, please report it by emailing swindonrangers@swindon.gov.uk with a What3Words location. The team will then collect the bird for disposal.
